Another Year Behind Us

Oh my goodness! 2017 is coming to an end already. Am I the only one who thinks this year just zoomed by? Where does time go? For real though, I feel like the older you get, the faster time goes and time is oh-so-valuable. With each second, we are getting older. With each second, we are losing time spent. You don’t even realize the time that has passed until one day, you look in the mirror and see an extra wrinkle on your face, or your birthday arrives and you realize you’ve been out of high school for 8 years already (yes, that’d be me). I mean, am I even considered a young adult anymore?

Whatever. Enough about my obvious insecurities! Let’s talk about the year that is soon to be behind us. 2017 was a really good year for my hubby and I. We got steadier on our feet financially and overall felt happier and less stressed as the year went on. I was under major stress at the beginning of the year but somewhere between May and August, I realized I no longer felt it. It was such a relief. Stress really weighs down a person, both mentally and physically and it can be such a roller coaster of a ride! So anyway, overall, I have a happier mental status and many good memories to reflect on!

Highlights? Mine would be the road trip to Chicago for our one year wedding anniversary, summer nights spent at moms on the lake, meeting Nick Swardson and winning free ball tickets, and camping down South over Labor Day weekend. So much more happened but these are the highlights!

We live less than seven hours away from Chicago and it was my first time being there! It was so much fun to visit a new City, especially one as busy as this one. I liked Chicago a lot. It reminded my slightly of New York City but a LOT easier to get around. We walked everywhere we went and it was super easy to get from point A to point B. What I loved most about Chicago was the over abundance of coffee shops and Chicago style pizza of course! I will definitely be going back.

Last winter, Mom moved up North, so for the first time in my life, we had a family cabin on the lake to go visit. It was so much fun to be able to go spend hot days in the water, sit by the campfire in the evenings, listen to the callings of the loons, and watch the many gorgeous sunsets over the lake!

My hubby and I enjoy going to Twins baseball games every year together, so naturally, we went to a few this past summer. We had heard about KFAN giving out free tickets at a bar in Minneapolis for a July ball game, so we jumped at the opportunity. We didn’t actually think we’d win but we figured it was worth going anyway (we would have bought tickets if we didn’t win free ones)! Much to our surprise, my name was called and we won free tickets! Along with receiving our free tickets, we got to meet and make small talk with comedian, Nick Swardson! We’ve seen him in a few movies and have always thought him to be hilarious, especially his character in the TV show, RENO 911. So yeah, we got our picture, took our free tickets, and went to watch a Twins win at Target Field!

Over Labor Day weekend, my hubby and I went on our first solo camping trip down South. As newbies, we weren’t fully prepared so we had a few oopsies like forgetting paper towels, setting the tent up the wrong way, and not having enough ice for the cooler, but we now know better for next time! We’ve both been camping many times before but never together. Plus, it’s been many years since the last time for both of us. Needless to say, we did OK and had a nice, relaxing getaway with lots of hiking and gorgeous scenery! I’ve lived in Minnesota my entire life and never knew how pretty and scenic down South is. I definitely recommend it for fellow Minnesotans.

Anyway, this about sums up my year! What were your highlights of 2017?
